IT4Innovations hosted the 3rd National Day of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic
Ostrava, 6th November 2018 – This year’s National Day of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic was held in the premises of IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre at the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava. The main aim of the conference was to provide a debate platform for discussing key most up-to-date issues concerning the policy-making and funding of large research infrastructures of the Czech Republic.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports opened the National Day by presenting the proposal for financing the large research infrastructures from the public funds of the Czech Republic until 2022. The proposal was approved by the Research, Development and Innovation Council and will be submitted for adoption by the Government of the Czech Republic. It comprises 48 large research infrastructures, which shall be financed in a synergy and complementary way by using the state budget expenditures of the Czech Republic and European Structural and Investment Funds. At the same time, the proposal reflects the outcomes of the international peer-review assessment of large research infrastructures of the Czech Republic, which was carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in 2017.
Afterwards, the National Day programme proceeded with session focused on the news from European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), in particular ESFRI Roadmap 2018 Update, and key agendas, which should be addressed by ESFRI in the nearest future. The following programme sessions paid attention to e-infrastructures and their role within the research infrastructures´ landscape and/or assessment of research infrastructures at the level of the Czech Republic and ESFRI.
The conference programme comprised also the poster session aimed at presenting the large research infrastructures included in the Roadmap of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic for the years 2016-2022. Last but not least, on-site-visit to the premises of IT4Innovations Supercomputing Centre was organised.
